I am a psychologist in private practice in Bellville where I have been working since January 2012. Previously I was employed by the South African Military Health Service (SAMHS) and was based at SAS Saldanha where I provided psychological services to the veterans, members and their dependents (partners and children) based at the SAS Saldanha Naval Academy, the Langebaanweg Airforce Base, the South African Military Academy and the Special Forces Regiment. My work at SAS Saldanha afforded me the opportunity to work with a variety of people of all ages and with a spectrum of psychological problems. I am equally comfortable in consulting with clients in English and Afrikaans.
Over time I have developed special professional interests in helping people with mood problems, anxiety problems, trauma, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents and adults, relationship problems and the psychological well-being of people living with chronic illness. In 2012 I presented a paper at the International Congress of Psychology on the value of certain psychological concepts with regards to psychological help to people living with HIV.
In order to qualify as a psychologist I obtained the following qualifications: B.Com. (UPE), BA Honors in Psychology Cum Laude (NMMU), MA in Clinical Psychology (NMMU). After obtaining these qualifications and completing an internship in the Elizabeth Donkin Psychiatric Hospital in Port Elizabeth, I registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a psychologist in the clinical psychology, independent practice category. In addition I am a member of the Psychological Society of South Africa, an International Affiliate of the American Psychological Association, a member of the South African HIV Clinicians Society and an associate member of the South African Clinical Neuropsychological Association.
Why Choose Me
Psychology is a diverse profession and psychologists have different approaches to help people resolve psychological problems. None of the approaches should be discredited or seen as one approach being superior to the other. Each person is different and different types of psychological problems each have unique characteristics. The diversity in psychological approaches therefore allows people to find a psychologist that matches their unique needs.
In my practice I take an approach which can be described as a “hands on” approach. I believe that the relationship between a psychologist and his client is of utmost importance and therefore I work with my clients in a transparent and collaborative way. In my approach it is also important for me to set therapy goals in collaboration with my client. In order to achieve the goals of therapy I consult international treatment guidelines. These guidelines are revised regularly and includes the latest research with regards to the effectiveness of various psychological treatments for specified psychological problems.
In order to make sound and professional psychological services available to as many members of the community as possible, I electronically submit claims to medical schemes directly and charge medical aid scheme fees. Clients who settle invoices on the day of service qualify for a discounted fee. Payment via debit or credit cards are welcomed, but unfortunately we do not provide account or credit facilities.
